Holy Day

Ember Day

Date

May 27, 2026

Ember Days set aside quarterly days for prayer, fasting, and reflection—especially in relation to the ordination of clergy, the changing of seasons, and the rhythms of creation. Traditionally observed on the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday following St. Lucy’s Day, Ash Wednesday, Pentecost, and Holy Cross Day, Ember Days call the Church to seek God’s guidance in ministry and vocation. Ember Days underscore the importance of spiritual discernment, the support of those entering ordained ministry, and gratitude for God’s provision through the natural year. They are a time for the whole Church to participate in the life and leadership of its people through prayer and attentiveness to the Spirit.
