Arts + Faith

Savannah is a town with a rich arts culture and St. John’s is deeply interested in the intersection of Arts & Faith. We regularly feature theologically rich contemporary art in our outdoor gallery, Under the Arches,” often reflecting the Church Year. We have a running outdoor Summer Concert Series that is free and open to the public. And we have a monthly Faith + Fiction group that looks at a curated list of fiction titles with good conversation and meaningful theological and philosophical engagement. Feel free to reach out to Fr Jameson with any questions about Arts & Faith at St John’s Church (jjameson@stjohnssav.org).

Adult Education

Christian education has long been central to St. John’s mission. We offer learning opportunities on Sunday for thoughtful Christians seeking to deepen their understanding of Christian faith and culture. Several classes led by the clergy focus on formal instruction on one of the gospels or a deep study of a specific theological theme. We also offer moderated group discussions of the Sunday Scripture readings intended to build community and faith at the same time. In the spring, we offer a class for adults seeking Confirmation, reception into membership at St. John’s, or a refresher/introduction to the Anglican tradition of Christianity by exploring the history of Anglicanism, and its distinctive approach to Christian faith and worship.

Youth & Children

Youth and Children’s ministry at St. John’s focuses on forming our young parishioners in the love of God. We do so through catechesis, because to love God, we must know Him.

Anglican Worship

At St. John’s, our worship is grounded on the truth of the Bible as transmitted in the beauty of the Anglican tradition.  It is done with reverence and dignity, according to the time-tested Biblical and traditional forms of the historic Book of Common Prayer (in the edition of 1928). Some services are very simple, others have elaborate music, vestment, and ceremony. Most of the congregation dresses up for church (jackets for men, equivalent attire for women).
