Chorister Program

Extensive Music Education
About
St. John’s Chorister Program is one of only a few of its kind in the United States. It gives a special opportunity to children throughout the Savannah area to sing great works of art and to receive an advanced education in a supportive environment.
Children learn professional musical skills including music theory and sight-reading, and receive private lessons in singing. They learn skills that last a lifetime: citizenship, leadership, focus, teamwork, patience, and self-discipline.
The St. John’s Chorister Program is open to all children, regardless of church affiliation or background. Previous musical training is not expected, and there are no fees. Incoming choristers should demonstrate a bright mind, a good ear, and a desire to excel.
As a chorister, you’ll share the bonds of teamwork and fellowship, education and travel, as you perform great works of music in national and international venues. You’ll work hard, you’ll play hard. Most of all, you’ll experience the rewards of a world-class musical education that will always be yours.
We are always delighted to meet with prospective choristers and their parents. To learn more about the chorister program, or to schedule an audition, contact the Organist & Choirmaster at any time.

Why Join the Choir?
Our choirs offer great weekly instruction, including one-to-one weekly musicianship lessons focused on music theory, aural skills, and vocal technique. Join a team of encouraging people who will constantly strive for excellence and for the opportunity to sing music that spans hundreds of years, and a variety of cultures. Beyond all of this, choristers learn important, transferable life skills such as citizenship, patience, self-discipline, ability to focus, and good humor.
