Morning Prayer Online
The daily practice of prayer and the reading of Holy Scripture is one of the foundations of Christian spiritual health. And perhaps the best tool the Christian tradition gives us for establishing that habit is the Prayer Book Daily Office—the services of Morning and Evening Prayer. Day by day, these services lead us through the Psalms and Scriptures, and teach us to bring our praises, thanksgivings, needs, and concerns before God in prayer.
In the modern world, however, it can be difficult for people to gather at the same time and place for daily worship—and it can be challenging to sustain the practice on our own. Morning Prayer Online offers another way to make the Daily Office part of the rhythm of your life.
Monday through Friday, the Rector offers Morning Prayer online through the St. John’s Church in Savannah Facebook page, beginning at about 8:15 or 8:20 a.m. The recording remains online afterward, so you can join in at whatever time is convenient. Along the way, the Rector provides brief, informative commentary on the Bible readings, helping listeners to understand difficult passages and to follow the larger movement and message of Scripture.
You can pray along with the service, or simply listen during your morning commute, while exercising, doing household tasks, or making dinner. Whether you join us every day or only when you can, Morning Prayer Online is an easy way to bring the Word of God and the prayers of the Church into the ordinary routines of daily life—and, over time, to let those routines themselves be shaped by prayer.
And because Morning Prayer comes to you from the Rectory, members of the Rectory’s feline household also make themselves heard—and occasionally seen—at regular intervals.
