The
Rev’d Gavin Dunbar
Rector
Father Gavin Dunbar has been rector of St. John’s Church since 2006. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, he studied classics at the University of Toronto and Dalhousie University, Halifax; before studying theology at Wycliffe College, Toronto. He was ordained a priest of the Anglican Church of Canada in 1992 in the Diocese of Nova Scotia. After serving several years in a rural parish in Nova Scotia he came to St. John’s in 1997, as a Priest Assistant. He is President of the Prayer Book Society of the U. S. A. In his spare time, he enjoys the study of western art and architecture history (through books or travel) and listening to vocal music of the Renaissance and Baroque period.
The
Rev’d Jonathan Jameson
Associate Rector
Father Jonathan Jameson is a native of San Diego, California and came to St. John’s Church in February 2022 to serve as the Associate Rector. While touring internationally as a profession musician, he became increasingly drawn to traditional Anglican worship and went on to study divinity at Nashotah House (MTS, 2019) and Montreal Diocesan Theological College (MDiv, 2021). He was ordained to the priesthood in January 2022 by the Bishop of Central Florida on the Feast of St. Agnes, Virgin and Martyr. He and his wife Amy have two children, a couple of cats, and an energetic English Cocker. Father Jameson is particularly interested in the theology of St. Augustine, the intersection of faith, culture, and art, and he still tries his best to pay attention to good new music.

William Douglas
Organist & Choirmaster
William Douglas joined the staff of St. John’s Savannah in 2024 as Organist & Choirmaster. In this role, he directs the chorister program, which features choirs for girls, boys, and adults. William also works closely with the clergy to plan and execute all parish liturgies. William is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in organ performance as a pupil of Dr. Jared Johnson. He also studied continuo and harpsichord with Dr. Jerry Curry. William was a recipient of the Summerall Award from the USC School of Music. Prior to joining the St. John’s staff, William served on the staffs of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Columbia, SC, and The Cathedral of All Saints, Albany, NY. As a performer and educator, William has given recitals across the country and offered lectures and masterclasses on hymn-playing and improvisation. Outside of St. John’s, William enjoys diverse interests such as reading, camping, cooking, auto mechanic work, hiking, and watching movies.

Bp. Paul Lambert, Ret’d.
Bishop
Bishop Paul E. Lambert has served as the Designated Episcopal Pastoral Oversight Bishop(DEPO) for St. John’s since Easter of 2015. Born in Reno, Nevada and raised in Nevada and California, he graduated from California State University in San Francisco before studying theology at Nashotah House Theological Seminary, Nashotah, Wisconsin. He was ordained priest in the Diocese of San Joaquin in 1976. After serving as a parish priest for 27 years he became Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of Dallas and later consecrated Bishop Suffragan of Dallas in 2008. He enjoys spending time with his wife Sally, their three daughters and sons-in-law, and seven grandchildren. He has a passion for reading (historical novels) and cooking.

Rev’d Patrick Hunt
Assisting Priest
Father J. Patrick Hunt was raised in Ohio and educated at Otterbein University, General Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Union Theological Seminary. He served as a priest in a number of parishes in the dioceses of Long Island, New Jersey, and Albany. On his retirement, he settled in Savannah and serves as a non-stipendiary assisting priest at St. John’s Church. He is a member of the Society of the Holy Cross (SSC). Fr Hunt is known to many in the congregation, as he has been assisting (chiefly at 12:15 p.m. on Sundays and on weekdays). During the interim, he will be assisting Fr Dunbar at other Sunday services and in weekday pastoral visits.

Sarah Bosiack Ross

Prior to joining St. John’s, Sarah distinguished herself as a trained catechist for 3-6-year-olds at Calvary Episcopal Church in Summit, New Jersey. During her five-year tenure there, she developed age-appropriate religious education curricula and guided young children at the start of their faith journeys. Sarah’s commitment to children’s ministry is rooted in her own family life. Together with her husband, Joseph Ross, Jr., they are blessed with five children: Anna Chase, Joseph III (Tripp), Caroline, Catherine, and William.

Mr. B. Ray Summerell
Verger
Mr. B. Ray Summerell and his wife, Melanie (Fawcett) were married in St. John’s in 1979. After years away, they returned to Savannah in 2014. In 2018, Ray concluded his career as a business growth and formation executive, accomplished a program of study for certification and was recognized as a Fellow of the Vergers Guild of the Episcopal Church. He subsequently accepted a non-stipendiary position as St. John’s first-ever Verger. Ray supports various administrative and operational matters and serves in ceremonial roles on major holy days. He is also a Licensed Eucharistic Minister. Ray and his wife currently divide their time between Savannah and a second residence in the rural English Midlands. In 2024, Ray was accepted as an Associate Member of the Church of England Guild of Vergers.
Mr. Jim Morris
Verger
Mr. James E. Morris, a native of Dallas, Texas, was called to service in the Lay Eucharistic Ministry program shortly after his confirmation in 1973. Following discussions with (then) Bp. Davies, Jim followed his calling to become a Lay Eucharistic minister. During his membership and service at The Church of The Incarnation in Dallas, he helped establish the Vergers program. For approximately 20 years, Jim served as the Head Verger, assisting in all aspects of worship, including writing customaries for special occasions. Since leaving Dallas, he has served in The Dioceses of the Rio Grande and The Central Gulf Coast. Moving to Savannah with his wife, Janet, Jim joined St. John’s Church. As a verger at St. John’s, Jim’s role is to support the lay ministry as directed by the clergy.
Mr. Carter C. Hubbard, Sr.
Acolyte Director and Master of Ceremonies
Mr. Carter C. Hubbard, Sr., a native of Virginia, has lived in Savannah with his wife, Barbara, since 1975. He has served in a volunteer capacity as a Licensed Lay Minister at St. John’s since 1987, with the authority to read lessons and administer the chalice at the Eucharist. As Master of Ceremonies, Carter ensures that St. John’s Church services flow smoothly, according to the Rector’s direction of the 1928 Prayer Book services. As Acolyte Director, he trains and coordinates the acolytes who serve the priests and congregation at the main services on Sundays and other major holy days.
